WORKS Simonian Rugs · The Complete Deep Clean · For First-Time Customers

12 Steps.
Nothing Skipped.
Ever.

Every rug coming to us for the first time goes through The Works — front and back, hand-scrubbed, tension-dried, and inspected twice. The complete clean your rug has been waiting for. Pet accidents, persistent odors, years of soil — this is the process built to handle all of it, on the rug's terms.

What makes it different
"Most cleaners do three or four of these steps. We do all twelve — in the right order, every time, regardless of how the rug looks when it arrives."

The Works is our full immersion deep cleaning process — built on rug-cleaning techniques practiced for centuries and refined over 70 years at our San Mateo wash plant.

This is not a surface clean. We clean the front and the back. We flush from back to front until the water runs clear. We hand-scrub every inch of pile. We tension-dry to prevent distortion.

After The Works, most rugs qualify for The Refresh — our maintenance program that's 30–40% less per visit.

The Flush — Our Differentiator ★
We push clean water back-to-front until it runs clear. Most cleaners skip this step — it requires a dedicated wash plant. Ours has run since 1956.
02
Mechanical Dusting First
Most of what damages rugs — grit, dust mites, allergens — is dry soil embedded in the foundation. We remove it mechanically before any liquid touches the rug.
Qualifies You for The Refresh
After The Works, every future cleaning becomes The Refresh — a focused 9-step maintenance program at 30–40% less per visit.
The Bay Area's Wash Plant · Est. 1956

Where other cleaners stop, we're just getting started.

Our wash plant is the only dedicated rug cleaning facility in the Bay Area. Purpose-built, continuously operated since 1956.

THE 12
All 12 Steps · In Order · Every Time

Nothing is skipped based on appearance.

Every rug goes through every step. A rug that looks clean may still contain years of embedded soil, dust mites, and allergens — you cannot know without going all the way through.

01
Inspection & Documentation
Full assessment across all six dimensions — origin, dyes, construction, materials, age, and condition. Every spot and concern documented with photos before we begin.
02
Mechanical Dusting
Deep mechanical dusting removes embedded dry soil from both the pile and the foundation. Removes allergens, dust mites, and embedded grit — this step alone often transforms a rug's appearance.
03
Pre-Treatment
Targeted pre-treatment on every spot, stain, and pet accident identified during inspection. Enzyme treatment for organic stains and pet urine — applied at the foundation level where the problem actually lives. pH-balanced solutions matched to the rug's specific fiber and dye chemistry.
04
Full Immersion Wash
The rug is fully submerged — front and back — in our wash plant. pH-balanced, temperature-controlled. Not steam-only, not surface spray. Full immersion.
05
Hand Scrub
Every inch of the pile is hand-scrubbed by our team. No mechanical shortcuts. Every square inch, manually. This is what separates a clean rug from a washed rug.
06
The Flush
We flush clean water from the back of the rug through to the front until the water runs completely clear. The step that removes what no surface treatment reaches. Most cleaners skip this entirely — it requires a dedicated wash plant.
07
Back Wash
The foundation is cleaned separately. Both sides cleaned independently ensures the backing fibers and warp threads are fully addressed — not just the visible pile.
08
Final Rinse
Complete rinse cycle removes all cleaning agents. pH-neutral finish — clean fiber, not just clean appearance. No residue left behind that could attract future soil.
09
Tension Drying
Rugs are stretched and dried under controlled tension — the correct way. Improper drying is the most common cause of a rug that won't lie flat after cleaning. We dry every rug properly, every time.
10
Pile Grooming
The pile direction is set by hand. Fringe is restored and straightened. Hand-finished to ensure the rug looks exactly as it should when it returns to your home.
11
Treatments
Protective treatments applied as needed or requested — Woolle® moth protection, Fiber Shield stain defense. Applied while the fibers are open and most receptive.
12
Final Quality Inspection
A full second inspection compares the completed rug against the intake photos and documented concerns. Nothing leaves without sign-off. Every item on the intake report is checked.
Step 06 · The Differentiator

The Flush.
The step that defines us.

When a rug is used for years, soil, allergens, dust mites, and — in homes with pets — urine crystals accumulate deep in the foundation. Vacuuming doesn't reach it. Surface cleaning doesn't reach it.

The flush removes it. We push clean water from the back of the rug through to the front, forcing everything out through the pile. On a heavily soiled rug this can take many flush cycles — we don't stop until the water runs clear.

Most professional rug cleaners know about the flush. They skip it because it requires a dedicated wash plant, specialized equipment, and significant time. We built our entire facility around it.

Why most cleaners skip it
Requires a dedicated wash plant · Specialized equipment · 60–90 minutes per rug · Cannot be rushed
The Works · Step 06 of 12 Complete

Every step that follows builds on the flush — because a truly clean rug
starts with what you can't see.

“The rug on the left arrived with 12 years of embedded soil and pet odors. The rug on the right went home in 5 days.”
The Science Behind The Works

What's living in your rug right now.

Most of what accumulates in a rug is invisible — but the science is well documented. A single gram of house dust contains thousands of dust mites. A used rug acts as a filter, trapping allergens until it's full — then releasing them with every footstep.

1,000s
Dust mites per gram of house dust
Peer-reviewed research confirms thousands are common in a single gram. They feed on dead skin cells and thrive in rug pile. Mechanical dusting removes them. Vacuuming alone does not.
Invisible
Soil embedded in the foundation
Every footstep grinds fine particles against the pile — slowly cutting fibers from the inside. The rug looks fine on the surface while the foundation degrades. The Works removes this.
Filter
Rugs act as the room's air filter
Rugs trap dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, and pollutants from the air. When the filter is full, it releases contaminants back into your home. The flush removes what vacuuming never reaches.
Years
Pet odors set deeper than people realize
Urine and other organic waste don't just stain the surface — they soak into the rug's foundation, where surface cleaning can't reach. Untreated, they continue to off-gas and re-emerge with humidity. The Flush is the step that lifts this from where it actually lives.
